Our trip to Colorado 🍂 Stardust co-creators, friends, and family met up in Boulder, Colorado on September 26th to remember the life and honor the death of the young man that started everything, Angus Moloney. Here are a few photos we'd like to share... While we were there, our friend Michael presented us with a check for $5,000 on behalf of the Hausette Foundation, which is based in St. Louis, Missouri. We have
received donations from them before and are very grateful for their loyalty and support. Growing our entrepreneurial network We’re growing our entrepreneurial network! Thalia Thalia Bloom is Stardust's new writer for The Constellation. A native New Yorker, Thalia works
at the Russell Sage Foundation, a sociology foundation, as a publishing assistant, and Mencius
Society for the Arts, a Chinese music education non-profit, as their orchestra coordinator. Having worked in both the giving and asking sides of the nonprofit world, Thalia was drawn to Stardust's mission of giving micro-grants to entrepreneurs who promote learning, since she believes learning should be a way of life. Thalia hopes to explore different aspects of ethical entrepreneurship in Stardust's monthly constellation and find new perspectives on startup practices in the digital
age. Thalia holds a B.A. in sociology from the Macaulay Honors College at the City College of New York. Her interests include violin, traditional Chinese music, cooking, reading fiction, and taking care of her houseplants. Have you read our most recent issue of The Constellation, where Thalia's
amazing article and interview with a businesswoman was the main feature? If not, read it here: Lumbrick has moved to Kenya
We funded this team's
initial pilot project trip to a refugee camp in Cameroon. Since then, Lumbrick has flourished. In this video, Lumbrick's CSO & CIO, Sarah Pellerin, is joined by partners at Bentos Energy and Greening Kenya Initiative to explain what they do, where they're heading, and more about their mission of transforming junk to joules.
Flora app is available for pre-order!
We were so impressed by Flora's sustainability app startup dream in March that we had to join in on seed financing. Their preferred social platform is Twitter, so head over there to stay on top of app updates, release dates, and more. The app is also now officially available for pre-order on the App Store. The Challenges of Doing Business in
Zimbabwe Zimbabwe is a country that uses multiple currencies; it does not have its own. People in Zimbabwe have lost confidence in the banking sector. They prefer not to keep
money in the banks. I am one of those people. Read more of this fascinating article written by our Spring 2018 microgrant recipient and entrepreneur Shlyeen Mpofu. Update from Dragonfly Effect Naturals When we asked Adam Riva about his plans for use of the Stardust microgrant, he said "We have decided to put the funds to launching a new flavor of [organic, sustainable,
eco-conscious] mouthwash. We hope to have the product available by November 1st, 2018." They aren't keeping up with social media as much these days, but are definitely growing sales, opening new accounts,
and expanding their territory (New Jersey, Vermont, and Pennsylvania have been conquered are now are on their way to Massachusetts). Congratulations! Shopping on Amazon.com recently? Remember to log in at smile.amazon.com to automatically donate a portion of your purchase price to help our nonprofit's operating costs. Our great friend Mouse Barry has been using Amazon Smile for all her online purchases and has made Amazon donate more than $50* to Stardust already!
